You know the challenges that we face in our community. People of all ages and backgrounds are struggling to reach their full potential. More and more children face seemingly insurmountable
learning gaps. Families find it difficult to spend quality time together. Playing outside has become a rarity. Face time happens through a phone. And instead of seeing the income gap shrink,
it seems all we do is watch it grow. But where society falls short, the Y - and supporters like you -- step in. Together we make a difference in the lives of thousands of people and a
huge impact on each individual we serve.
2024 Case Statement Program Focus
Partnering to build capacity: Not only do families need safe care when their children are not in school, even the school districts need help with camps in a major
way. We have been approached to provide winter, spring and summer care for hundreds more students than usual due to parental need and lack of school capacity. Four Square church is
helping us accommodate the 2024 capacity for these children so no child will be turned away due to lack of space. Additionally, we are partnering with OUSD and GUSD and now SMBSD to
provide swim lessons during school days so we can teach more lifesaving swim lessons to hundreds of students throughout the school year.
Social Emotional Wellness (SEW): The Y is proactively addressing and responding to the behavioral challenges in after school, camp and childcare settings. We are
training staff to specifically address the current ‘pandemic’ of mental wellness for our youth. These students are struggling to reintegrate into the social constructs of school
and society in general. CALM is training dozens of our staff with mental and emotional coping tools to better care for and address behaviors with hundreds of children our Y staff work with
every day on several different school campuses and at the Y.
RiseUP: These kids are now more in the shadows and at higher risk of gang involvement and dropping out of school than ever. We will continue to bring them in, handpicked by
their principals, and provide them with an educational experience and a ‘bridge’ into the Hancock College Bulldog program to secure the educational futures, no matter the odds.
Y Preschool: The Y is offering scholarships and quality, licensed preschool care so families may go back to work and know their littles are cared for, educated and
safe. There is a high need for preschool and financial aid raised from this campaign is highly needed for the early development of these little people.
Because of you we can offer financial scholarships to those who need us the most. And boy do they! Thank you for making so much possible for so many. Please take care of yourselves
and one another. Our community is more than ready to reconnect. We’re delighted to be the catalyst for creating a stronger net for all.
